What to bring to a NERO event

Here is a very basic list of what to bring to your first NERO West Tennessee / Memphis event. For more information on what to bring, send an email to Justin Roman.

What To Bring

Tent - A good sized tent or other sleeping structure is highly recommended.

Tarp - We also recommend a tarp or other waterproof ground covering to put under your tent before you set it up. The ground is likely to be wet if it has rained, and this will help keep you dry as you sleep.

Bedding - Sleeping bags, Extra blankets, Pillows and whatever else you will need to sleep. Remember, we are a primitive site, so it will be cold in winter and hot in the summer. Plan accordingly.

Firewood - To keep yourself warm in the winter, and cook your food all year long, you should bring a camp axe or some fire wood to burn in one of the many firepits our site offers.

Shower Kit - Toothbrush, Tooth paste, soap, shampoo, towels, extra towels, extra socks, deoderant (please?) and whatever else you may need. We have a heated shower house where you can shower, and we urgently request that you do so frequently. Not only will showering help warm you up, it will dramatically increase your social status with the staff of NERO West Tennessee.

Costuming - Only once you have everything above should you start packing your costuming. If you are NPCing this event, black pants, shoes and a shirt are suggested. If you plan to play a character this event, bring all your usual costuming, plus extra clothes in winter, and sunscreen in the summer. BRING EXTRA SOCKS - you'll be glad you did.

Food - Dinner on Saturday night will be provided as part of your event cost. The rest of the weekend, though, you are on your own! Bring bottled water, snack bars, and meals for the whole weekend. Don't forget a cooler with extra ice to keep it all fresh! Pots and pans (if you plan to cook your food) are also required. Many camping stores sell military-style "Meals Ready To Eat". These are very helpful when camping, as they only require fresh water to heat.

Flashlights and Lamps - It gets very, very dark on site. Be sure you have a flashlight (with extra batteries), glowsticks (to simulate candles) and an electric camping lantern when you arrive on site. Remember that NERO rules prohibit using actual candles or gas-burning lanterns while playing. This is to prevent injuries.
