FAQ

How old do I need to be to play?
All players must be at least fourteen years of age to play at NERO Memphis.

How much does it cost to play?
Weekend long games cost $35.00 pre-reg and $45.00 at the door. This money goes towards the chapter, plot, and improvement of the site. There is also a $30 membership, renewed annually. Your first event is free, all you must pay for is food. All prices current as of 2004.

What do I need to bring?
When you attend a game, you should bring camping and overnight gear. Players should bring a sleeping bag, a complete change of clothes (especially footwear), food and drink, warm clothes in case of cold weather, any medication you may need, and a camp chair is nice too. The games are held in the woods, so please remember to bring bug spray and any similar equipment you may need. A first aid kit is a wise purchase. Each player should bring a light. Flashlights are not allowed in play. Players may only carry electric lights that look like lanterns. These can be found at most sporting good stores. Barring that option, players may also carry glow sticks.

Do I need to bring my own weapons?
Combat in NERO Memphis is conducted with a padded weapon called a boffer. For your first trip, weapons will be provided to you. After this you will need to build weapons of your own. If you should build weapons for your first game (or already have weapons from another game), they must be inspected at check-in.

Do I need a costume?
Yes. Every player must wear a complete costume, and you will not be allowed into the town without one. People running around in street clothes ruin the atmosphere of the game, and you will be uncomfortable in a substandard costume. Every player must wear a costume that makes them look the part of a fantasy character. This can be as simple as a burlap tunic, or as advanced as a professional costume, but NERO Memphis costuming standards are quite high. Carefully assemble your costume, and pay attention to detail.

Is alcohol allowed in the tavern?
No. NERO Memphis games are dry games. No alcohol is allowed on site. In addition, no drugs. Players are not allowed to play if they are found to be under the influence of alcohol or any other drug, and will be asked to leave the site.

Any chance of getting a shower; what about bathrooms?
There are currently NO showers available on-site. There are bathrooms available.

If I have children, are they welcome at the game?
Of course. Children are always welcome at NERO Memphis. Children who are not 14 must be supervised at all times by their parent or guardian.

What about pets?
Please leave your cute fuzzy (or other) friends at home. Pets are not allowed on the NERO Memphis site. Sorry folks.

How safe is the game?
Playing at NERO Memphis is very safe. The rules regarding safety are very well thought out and strictly enforced. All weapons and equipment are checked for safety each game. Of course, the game does take place in the middle of the woods, often at night. Accidents may happen. There has never been any injury at NERO Memphis.

Are there any stores in the area?
There are stores, restaurants, and a gas station in close driving distance of the site, should you forget to bring anything.

What should I do when I arrive?
When you arrive at the site you will need to seek out a staff member. They will assist you with signing in, creating a character, basic rules and all that fun stuff. After this, stow your gear, get into garb, and join the fun!
